The mission of the Providence Christian Academy library media centers is two-fold:
-
to encourage and guide our students to become life-long learners and readers; and
-
to provide resources that enable our faculty to accomplish the school’s mission
of providing “excellence in Christ-centered education as an extension of the Christian
home”. The library media centers are designed to ensure that students and staff
are effective users of resources and information. Our library media centers are
places where students can build twenty-first century literacy skills. These include
reading effectively for information as well as enjoyment, using computers and other
media to locate information, and learning how to evaluate and use information to
communicate.
The combined elementary and high school collections include over 21,000 books, 2000
DVDs, videotapes and other audio-visual items as well as access to a number of online
database subscriptions. The library media centers subscribe to over 70 magazines
and receive the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Gwinnett Daily Post, and the USA
Today newspapers. The automated catalog is available from every computer on our
campus.
Students are encouraged to use the library media centers before and after school
as well as during the school day. During the day students may come with a class
or on an individual basis with teacher permission.
